The Future Of "Adventures At Home" And The Pressure Of Bright White Houses

For a while now I've had the feeling like something is shifting. I have about 6 other blog posts sitting in drafts right now that I still plan on publishing soon, but I wanted to talk about some changes that are coming to Adventures At Home.

For so long I've felt the pressure to fit into this perfect blogger bubble of white houses, perfectly posed flat lays, and beautifully curated content. The truth is, I'm bored with bright white everything, and it's not realistic for me to try to keep up with it. My countertops aren't granite, and my life isn't filtered in a millennial pink haze. I know it's all in my head, but I've been feeling like less of a blogger because I don't have a perfectly curated instagram feed.

I'm messy, creative and my life is wonderfully colourful

It's time to be real

The internet is over saturated with mom blogs. I know this because I'm in several online groups for mom bloggers- there are thousands and thousands of us, and all of us want to stand out, gain a following and eventually work from home. ALL.OF.US. So I've been trying to figure out ways to stay true to myself, but also set myself apart from other bloggers. The main thing that sets bloggers apart from one another is having a niche for your blog, and telling YOUR story. Readers want to know about you, who you are, what you're all about and what you have to tell them.

Who Am I?

I am a 28 year old woman, who is a writer, a wife and a mother. If I could be near the ocean 24/7 I would be. I love everything about living in the Maritimes, including the people, the many awesome small businesses, and the fresh, salty ocean air. I love hustling for what you want, but also love slow sleepy Sundays. I'm creative, and always coming up with fun DIYs or activities- and I LOVE to plan.

I need constant vitamin "sea"

What story do I want to tell?

I want to tell the story of a family, living, loving and adventuring in the Maritimes. I want to share fun parenting tips and stories, take you on our travels, and showcase everything the Maritimes has to offer. Going forward I'm going to focus on family fun (activities to do with kids, DIYs, reviews of kids products, etc) and adventure (camping tips, travel blogs, keeping active). I will still post other things occasionally, but the majority of posts going forward will be family fun & adventure themed. My Instagram feed and stories will still be full of daily vlog type videos, weight loss progress, and updates on our townhouse makeover/home decor. My Facebook Page  will continue to showcase my blog posts, kid's clothing deals, photos, stories, and some crossover posts from Instagram.

I just want Adventures At Home to be a really fun and positive space to share things with you all going forward. I have a tendency to be very frank sometimes, but I'm learning that not everything needs to be blogged about (that's what Instastories are for). I could honestly spend every day blogging about the ridiculous questions I see posted in Facebook mom groups, but I realize that those posts are not fun or inspiring to anyone.

In the next few weeks, I will be updating my blog theme and doing a slight rebranding (the name will not change), so stay tuned for that! I love white walls just as much as the next blogger, and if I'm being honest, I am literally painting our kitchen white this week- but it's only to make way for some colourful decor. Just like our home, this blog is about to get a lot more colourful.
